The semiotics of comics is truly fascinating. Our ability to recognize faces is so universal that we can see them even in manhole covers or wallpaper patterns. That’s why I think of comics as a different kind of language—especially when they’re drawn in simpler, more minimal forms. In that way, they resemble ideograms, like Chinese characters or Egyptian hieroglyphs.
Of course, not everything can be translated into symbolic forms, and there’s a general trend where more detailed drawings are considered cooler or more impressive. And in my case, since I include a lot of text, readers have to actually read the words too...
One of the reasons I chose comics as my medium of communication was to make up for my limitations in expressing ideas clearly. It’s like how things are easier to understand when you’re talking face to face.
