24. Pregnancy & Evolution (2)
This episode is connected to the previous one about pregnancy and evolution. I didn’t connect it directly because I first had to talk about why giving up one's own resources voluntarily is essential, and how that is so often overlooked. A society that fails to count such choices also fails to thoroughly read the meaning of economy, capitalism, and evolution. People usually only consider results or what has been added compared to before. But nature and society don’t always progress linearly, productively—neither do humans. Many decisions in this world are about staying still or giving something up voluntarily. I believe such decisions are what truly support society at its core.
What led me to think deeply about the choices and refusals of females was Korea’s radical feminist 4B movement. It’s a movement where women, in protest against Korea's deeply rooted misogynistic society, choose to give up four things: marriage, romantic relationships, childbirth, and sex. This movement made me realise that such choices don’t exist only in human society. They leave traces in nature and are written into the female body.
